Richard Crookes Constructions Pty Ltd to pay out a further $100,000 for obstructing/hindering safety

Updated: Jan 24, 2023

Representatives of Richard Crookes Constructions obstructed safety officials/permit holders at one of their Sydney jobsites. They engaged in similar conduct with the CFMEU. It seems they just don't want a third party to see their sites.

I would really hate to think of how unsafe a Richard Crookes site must be. They would rather obstruct permit holders/inspectors (very illegal #NotLegalAdvice) than have them point out their failings with regards to workers safety.

When you combine the $190,000 they had to pay the CFMEU only a few weeks ago with the further $100,000 they were ordered to pay out yesterday I have to ask, is the site safety that bad that $290,000 in court ordered penalties is cheaper than letting inspectors onsite to do their jobs?

Do not assault/obstruct/hinder any person who has a right to enter a worksite. This includes (in NSW);

  • Police, Fire, Ambulance (or any emergency service)

  • SafeWork NSW Inspectors

  • Union Officials/Delegates

  • Any other person with a permit under the WHS Act.

Once again, $100,000 is a light penalty for obstructing safety inspectors, but this is how Richard Crookes is consistently proven by courts to operate.
